You’ll explore many tales, including The Fiery Tale (Chinese), The Blind Man (West Africa), The Happy Man’s Shirt (Italian), and Bear and Turtle Have a Race (Mohawk: Indigenous American).

Talking to You: Engaging Debates

In just a few weeks, you'll confidently navigate many topics with others, express opinions, present ideas effectively, and familiarize yourself with different accents and expressions. This allows you to become more aware of different vocabulary, including slang, idioms, and more. 

Course Objectives:

• Engage in impactful conversations;
• Provide clear explanations and compelling arguments;
• Lead group discussions, extend invitations, and make announcements;
• Deliver a concise 5-minute presentation on a chosen topic.

Achieve the English Group Badge by:

• Attend the entire 30-minute weekly meetings;
• Participate actively in engaging debates;
• Showcase your knowledge with a 5-minute presentation;
• Reflect on your progress through weekly quizzes.

Pen Pal: Write Connections 

Writing clearly and persuasively represents a trained and disciplined mind. During this course, you will read and write standard letters twice a week to an assigned partner. Each week will cover a different topic. You will receive a writing template to follow and have weekly assignments in Cypher Learning.

Course Objectives:

• Master grammar tools to intelligently and compellingly develop a topic;
• Expand and apply your vocabulary;
• Demonstrate comprehension by summarizing and responding to your partner.

Achieve the Pen Pal Badge by

• Consistently exchanging at least 2 letters per week with your assigned pen pal.

All Ears: Conversation One-On-One

A one-on-one interaction will refine and expand your communication abilities.  Following the completion of this course, you will capably engage in discussions on everyday subjects, honing your conversational skills through weekly meetings with a peer.

Course Objectives:

• Perfect conversations on various everyday subjects;
• Enter conversations on familiar topics with ease.

Course Expectations for the Conversation Partner Badge:

• Attend the full 30-minute weekly conversation with your partner;
• Collaboratively evaluate each other's performance;
• Complete weekly conversation skills assignments in Cypher Learning;
• Reflect on your conversation and learning through weekly quizzes (self-evaluation).
